TROOP 876 SENDS CREWS TO PHILMONT IN 2009!!
Troop 876 will send 2 crews (12 persons each crew) to Philmont Scout Ranch in the summer of 2009. Philmont is considered by many to be the ultimate scout experience. We are fortunate and excited many of our scouts will experience the "pinnacle of scouting." Due to high demand, Scout units are assigned Philmont treks by drawing and a unit may only send a trek to Philmont every two years. It may be 2011 before our troop will be eligible to send another trek to Philmont (National Scout Jamboree is 2010).
Dates:
Trek I: June 12-24, 2009
Trek II: June 24-July 6, 2009
(Travel time to and from Philmont is an extra 2 days in addition to the trek. Travel is by chartered bus provided by Circle Ten. Trek I will depart Circle Ten the evening of June 11th and Trek II departs Circle Ten the evening of June 23rd.) Philmont Scout Ranch, the Boy Scouts of America's premier high-adventure base, challenges Scouts and Venturers with more than 200 square miles of rugged New Mexico wilderness. Backpacking treks, horseback cavalcades, and training and service programs offer young people many ways to experience this legendary country.
The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base operates nine different adventures out of three different locations: two in the Florida Keys, and one in Marsh Harbour, Bahamas. The adventures Coral Reef Sailing, Sea Exploring Adventure, Scuba Adventure, Scuba Certification, and Live Aboard Scuba Adventure operate in the Florida Keys at Mile Marker 73.8 at Sea Base on Lower Matecumbe Key located 75 miles south of Miami.
Northern Tier National High Adventure Bases offers Scouts an opportunity to travel into a northern wilderness explored by few people. From June to September, Northern Tier offers Scouts and Venturers the world's best wilderness canoeing.
Elkhorn High Adventure Base is one of four camps located on the Ben Delatour Scout Ranch. The program has been put together to take advantage of the magnificent location high in the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado. Located just north of Rocky Mountain National Park, the Elkhorn High Adventure Base offers a unique experience for older Scouts to hike, camp, and climb in the Rocky Mountains. Each crew will spend five full days of high adventure activities such as backpacking, rappelling, rock climbing, black powder, C.O.P.E and tomahawk throwing.
